Cross River tourism board reassures visitors ahead of 2025 carnival Calabar

The Cross River Tourism Bureau (CRSTB) has assured tourists and stakeholders that the state is fully prepared to host the 2025 edition of Carnival Calabar, marking 20 years of sustaining the event as an internationally recognised cultural festival.
According to Mr. Ojoi Ekpenyong, Managing Director of CRSTB, preparations for the carnival include expanded hotel capacity, enhanced airlift, upgraded tourism infrastructure, and strengthened security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.
“Carnival Calabar is widely regarded as Nigeria’s biggest street party, attracting thousands of local and international tourists each December.
”As we celebrate 20 years of sustaining this international brand, the state is fully ready to host both the carnival and its spillover events, including activities at the Obudu Mountain Resort,” Ekpenyong stated.
The managing director highlighted the government’s efforts to improve air connectivity through CallyAir, which recently acquired two new aircraft to ease access to Calabar during the festive season.
In addition, about 4,000 hotel rooms have been prepared for visitors, and grants have been approved to assist hospitality operators in upgrading their facilities.
Ekpenyong also emphasised investments in urban renewal and beautification, including early festive lighting along major roads and the unveiling of one of Nigeria’s tallest Christmas light towers.
For the first time, VIP seating would be introduced for visitors during the parade, and a new cinema at the Calabar Marina Resort will open this month.
Security remained a top priority, he assured, with measures in place before, during, and after the carnival to safeguard all attendees.
The state’s festive activities, which began on November 1 at the Christmas Village, would continue across multiple locations in Calabar through the end of the year.
The grand finale of Carnival Calabar is scheduled for December 29, promising an unforgettable celebration of culture, music, and tourism.
