Dr. Awele Elumelu named incoming chair of Transcorp Hotels

Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc, has announced that Dr. (Mrs.) Awele Vivien Elumelu will take over as Board Chair starting January 1, 2026.
She will succeed Mr. Emmanuel Nnorom, who is retiring at the end of his current tenure.
Dr. Elumelu brings extensive experience across healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy.
She currently chairs Avon Healthcare Limited (Avon HMO) and oversees Avon Medical Practice, a network of hospitals and clinics expanding across Nigeria.
In addition, she heads Heirs Insurance Brokers and serves as a founding director of Heirs Holdings Limited.
A trained medical doctor with an MBBS from the University of Benin, Dr. Elumelu has practised in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Her expertise is further enhanced by executive education from prestigious institutions, including Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.
Beyond her professional career, Dr. Elumelu is deeply involved in philanthropy.
As a co-founder and trustee of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, she has championed programs supporting young African entrepreneurs, including initiatives focused on gender inclusion, mentorship, and startup capital, reaching over 24,000 individuals across the continent.
Commenting on her appointment, Transcorp Group Chairman Mr. Tony O. Elumelu praised Dr. Elumelu’s track record, highlighting her leadership qualities and alignment with the group’s vision to redefine hospitality in Nigeria.
He noted that her strategic insights would be instrumental in enhancing guest experiences and promoting sustainable business practices.
Dr. Elumelu’s appointment is expected to usher in a new era for Transcorp Hotels, strengthening its focus on innovation, wellness, and responsible corporate governance while maintaining its commitment to stakeholders and the wider community.
