Lagos real estate conference focuses on building a livable mega city

The Sixth Lagos Real Estate Marketplace Conference showcased Lagos State’s vision to become a thriving mega city while addressing the challenges of rapid urban growth.

The event, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, drew over 2,000 participants, including international investors from the U.S., Middle East, and Asia.

Themed “Shaping the Future of Lagos Megacity: Infrastructure, Innovation and Affordable Housing,” it was organized by the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) under the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos’ transformation into a high-performing urban economy.

While praising the state’s growth, he acknowledged the pressing need for affordable, dignified housing and sustainable urban planning.

He stressed that housing should be integrated with transportation, infrastructure, energy, and climate resilience to ensure communities are connected to jobs and essential services.

The governor encouraged public-private partnerships, structured finance, and demand-driven planning to bridge housing gaps.

He assured investors of improved security, transparency, and a stable investment environment, describing Lagos as one of Africa’s safest and best-governed investment destinations.

Barr. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, Special Adviser on Housing, emphasized the conference’s role as a platform for policy innovation and highlighted that the ongoing review of the New Tenancy Bill stems from discussions at previous conferences.

The bill aims to balance landlords’ and tenants’ rights while streamlining real estate transactions.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN, urged adherence to the unified master plan, protection of highway setbacks, and stronger environmental laws to make Lagos more habitable.

The conference reinforced Lagos State’s commitment to strategic housing development, investor engagement, and sustainable urban growth.
