Nasarawa, Angola deepen ties with MoU on agriculture, education

In a move set to strengthen sub-national cooperation, Nasarawa State and Angola’s Bengo Province have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focusing on key sectors such as agriculture, education, mining, oil and gas, and health.
The agreement, formalised on Tuesday in Lafia, marks a new chapter in bilateral collaboration aimed at leveraging the comparative advantages of both regions to boost socio-economic development.
Gôvernor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State highlighted that technical teams from both sides had engaged extensively before the signing, identifying shared challenges and opportunities arising from their proximity to the national capitals — Abuja and Luanda.
“We discovered strong complementarities between our states.
”While Bengo Province has demonstrated expertise in specific agricultural sectors, Nasarawa State offers complementary strengths.
”This partnership will enable knowledge exchange, joint investment, and capacity building,” Sule said.
A key component of the MoU is the establishment of a One-Stop Investment Hub designed to simplify the entry and project implementation process for Angolan investors in Nasarawa State.
Sule described the initiative as a strategic step to attract investment and foster economic cooperation.
Dr Maria Nelumba, Governor of Bengo Province, described the signing as a historic milestone, emphasising that the agreement reflects a growing sense of solidarity and brotherhood between Nigeria and Angola.
“This MoU is more than a formal document. It symbolises the fraternity of our peoples and our shared commitment to economic, social, and environmental development,” she said.
The ceremony also featured the official inauguration of the One-Stop Investment House at the Nasarawa State Investment Development Agency (NASIDA) headquarters, alongside the Multi-Door Court in Lafia, signalling the start of operational collaboration under the MoU.
