Fubara reveals Rivers State funds left by Ibas, pledges accountability

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has reaffirmed his commitment to financial discipline, revealing the state’s coffers were left with over N300 billion before a period of emergency rule and that he later inherited a balance of roughly N600 billion upon returning to office.
Speaking at the commissioning of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road, which links communities in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas, the governor emphasised that his administration would provide detailed, verifiable reports on public fund utilisation within six months.
Fubara dismissed criticisms about state fund management, attributing them to his preference for executing projects quietly without publicised launch ceremonies.
He stressed that numerous other initiatives are ongoing across Rivers State, and that visible infrastructure developments demonstrate prudent use of resources.
The governor also noted that the Obodhi–Ozochi project, initially begun by his predecessor Nyesom Wike as a political mobilisation tool during the 2023 elections, was expanded by an additional 4.2 kilometres to better serve the communities.
In response to local requests, he approved the construction of internal roads alongside the main project.
Fubara also encouraged Edison Ehie, the former Chief of Staff involved in the project, to leverage community engagement for political support for President Bola Tinubu, citing the strategic importance of grassroots backing for the upcoming elections.
