Oborevwori urges Nigerians to be ambassadors of peace

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of peace, love, and unity as the nation celebrates Christmas.

The governor made the appeal on Tuesday during the inter-denominational Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols organised by the state government in Asaba.

Speaking through his Deputy, Monday Onyeme, Oborevwori urged citizens to carry the message of Christmas into their homes, workplaces, and communities.

He emphasised that the light of Christ should guide daily actions and interactions.

“Let us be ambassadors of peace, love, and forgiveness. Our diversity, when united, becomes our greatest strength, just as different voices blend into harmonious music,” Oborevwori said.

Reflecting on the achievements of his administration, the governor highlighted investments in critical infrastructure, expanded access to healthcare and education, and strengthened security across Delta State.

He also underscored prudent management of resources as a key factor in sustaining progress.

Guided by the state’s MORE Agenda, Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development that ensures no community or citizen is left behind.

“Our vision is clear: a peaceful, united, and prosperous Delta State where development reaches everyone,” he added.

The event also featured sermons and reflections from religious leaders.

Rev. Lucky Osagbakhoe, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Delta State Chapter, described Christmas as a season for worship and a time to show love and care to others.

Prayers at the festival were offered for Nigeria, Delta State, Governor Oborevwori, and public office holders, seeking divine guidance for national peace and good governance.

Prominent figures who participated in reading the lessons at the festival included Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, Mr. Pat Ajudua, Professor Epiphany Azinge (SAN), and Rev. Oke Akokotu.

The celebration, according to organisers, is intended not only as a religious observance but also as a reminder of the power of unity, collaboration, and peace in driving sustainable development across Delta State.
