Lagos set to host Eko fiesta to empower SMEs, youth creativity

Lagos is preparing to welcome the 2025 edition of the much-anticipated Eko Fiesta, a three-day cultural and commercial event aimed at boosting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), showcasing young talent, and positioning the state as a premier tourism and cultural hub.

The announcement was made at a press briefing on Thursday by Mr. Damilare Osho, a partner at Dosh and Wales Company, the organisers behind the festival.

The event is scheduled to take place from December 22 to 24 and is open to the public at no cost.

“The Eko Fiesta is designed to create a dynamic space where culture, commerce, and entertainment intersect.

“It reflects the vibrant spirit of Lagos while providing a platform for local entrepreneurs and creatives to thrive, ” Osho said.

According to Osho, the festival will give small-scale business owners direct exposure to a wide range of consumers, helping them expand trade opportunities and increase visibility.

He explained that the idea for the fiesta emerged from the need to provide a central space where visitors, including Nigerians living abroad, could enjoy cultural experiences, shop, and network during the festive season.

“December in Lagos is filled with concerts and parties, yet there has been a lack of an event that combines celebration with meaningful engagement. Eko Fiesta fills that gap,” Osho added.

The organisers also emphasised that the festival would serve as a showcase for Lagos as a destination for tourism, arts, and cultural investment, creating opportunities to attract foreign direct investment.

Beyond commerce, the fiesta will feature mentorship programs, networking sessions, and civic engagement initiatives aimed at young people, the diaspora, and development-focused organisations.

Speaking at the briefing, Mr. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, underscored the state government’s commitment to youth development through cultural initiatives.

“Festivals like Eko Fiesta open doors for young people in entertainment, creative arts, and culture-driven businesses,” he said, assuring that the government would continue to support the event in future editions.

Also in attendance, Mrs. Ayodele Olojede, Divisional Head of Retail and SMEs at Wema Bank Plc, highlighted the bank’s sponsorship as part of its dedication to supporting youth and small businesses.

“We will be actively involved throughout the three days, assisting existing and potential customers and addressing complex financial needs,” she said.

Among the young entrepreneurs set to showcase their talents is fashion designer Tosky Opeifa, who expressed excitement about participating.

She promised to present innovative designs that merge European styles with traditional Nigerian fabrics, highlighting the creativity and craftsmanship of local artisans.

The Eko Fiesta promised to be more than a celebration, it aims to be a vibrant intersection of culture, commerce, and community, spotlighting Lagos as a leading destination for creativity and business in Africa.
