NNPP retains Ajuji as national chairman

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially reaffirmed Dr. Ahmed Ajuji as its National Chairman during its national convention held in Abuja on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Ajuji was re-elected unopposed, a decision endorsed through voice votes by delegates, reflecting a strong consensus within the party.

Alongside Ajuji, Dipo Olayoku retained his position as National Secretary, while other national officers were similarly returned unopposed.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closely monitored the convention to ensure transparency.

In his acceptance address, Ajuji emphasised that the leadership would focus on steering the party toward success in the 2027 general elections, pledging to uphold the party’s objectives over the next four years.

He urged party officials to view their re-election as a responsibility to serve and adhere strictly to the oath of office, while encouraging members to remain committed to building a stronger, united, and progressive party.

The NNPP’s national leader, former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, congratulated the leadership and called for continued loyalty and discipline.

Highlighting the success of NNPP governance in Kano State, Kwankwaso suggested it served as a model of what Nigerians could expect from the party on a national scale.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf described the convention as a pivotal moment for the party, urging the newly elected leaders to promote unity, inclusiveness, and fairness, ensuring no member is marginalised.

The convention also served as a platform to celebrate the party’s achievements over the past four years.

Bala Mohammed, chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, noted that the progress made by the NNPP reflected the commitment and resilience of its members, while reaffirming the party’s determination to remain a major force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Addressing concerns over internal divisions, NNPP National Adviser Magaji Ibrahim reassured members that the party remains united and focused under Kwankwaso’s leadership, dispelling rumors of discord.

A notable resolution of the convention was the ratification of the suspension of Article 37(1) of the party constitution, a move aimed at strengthening internal governance and streamlining operations.

Delegates and party leaders alike underscored that the convention represents both a renewal of commitment and a strategic step toward consolidating NNPP’s presence across Nigeria, as it prepares to play a central role in shaping the country’s political future.
