Former Governor of Delta State and Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative in the South-South, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has paid tribute to the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
Dr. Okowa described him as a fearless politician, dependable leader, and a staunch voice for the Anioma people.
Speaking at Nwaoboshi’s Asaba residence, Okowa expressed deep sorrow over the senator’s passing, noting that both Delta State and the Anioma nation had lost a committed and outspoken political figure.
Okowa recalled that Nwaoboshi was an influential figure in the early development of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
As a founding Secretary of the party in the state, he played a crucial role in mobilising support that led to the PDP’s landmark victory in the 1999 general elections.
Highlighting Nwaoboshi’s political journey, Okowa noted that his dedication to public service and strong leadership enabled him to rise to the position of PDP State Chairman, before representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023.
“He was fearless in his approach to politics and consistently fought for the welfare of his people.
“Throughout his career, he remained unwavering in defending the interests of Anioma and Delta.”
Describing Nwaoboshi’s death as a significant loss, Okowa added that the senator had been a dependable voice for justice, equity, and development.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Nwaoboshi’s soul, emphasising that the late politician had completed his earthly mission to the glory of God.
Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, remembered as a seasoned and courageous politician, was widely respected for his unwavering commitment to his party and tireless advocacy for his constituents.
In a related condolence visit, Senator Okowa also extended sympathy to Chief Roseline Amioku, Chairman of the Delta State Civil Service Commission, who lost her son on Thursday in Asaba.
He offered prayers for strength for the bereaved family, urging them to find comfort in the belief that their loved one had departed in peace.
