Insecurity in Nigeria: Deliberate, not accidental – Opadokun

Former Afenifere Secretary-General and NADECO chieftain, Chief Ayo Opadokun, has sounded the alarm over Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, insisting it is a planned operation orchestrated by destructive forces, not random incidents.
Speaking at his installation as Grand Patron of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Offa branch, Opadokun claimed bandits, kidnappers, and insurgents were backed by both local and foreign sponsors with long-term plans to destabilise the country.
“We are witnessing the consequences of decisions made long ago.
”This is not accidental; it is planned,” he said, recalling a four-day meeting in August 2022 at Nicon Hilton, where strategies against Nigeria were allegedly discussed.
The elder statesman urged the Federal Government to intensify the fight against insurgents and their sponsors, warning that mercy should no longer be extended to perpetrators of violence.
While highlighting security threats, Opadokun also praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly tax changes aimed at reducing burdens on low-income Nigerians and strengthening fiscal federalism.
“The reforms show boldness, but their impact must reach ordinary Nigerians, not just the elites,” he stressed, pointing to inflation, rising costs, and pressure on small businesses as ongoing challenges.
Opadokun called for government policies to be implemented with empathy, transparency, and citizen engagement, stressing that true stability required justice, fairness, and inclusion across Nigeria’s diverse communities.
He emphasised that the government’s success should be measured not only by reforms but by how effectively they improve dignity, opportunity, and hope for everyday Nigerians.
