Rivers shares Bayelsa’s grief over Ewhrudjakpo’s death, says Fubara

Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has described Rivers and Bayelsa states as inseparable, saying the people of Rivers are equally mourning the death of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Fubara made the remark on Sunday during a condolence visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at the Government House, Yenagoa.
He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation from Rivers State.
The Rivers governor noted that developments in Bayelsa often have a direct impact on Rivers, stressing the deep historical, cultural and political ties between the two neighbouring states.
According to him, the loss of the Bayelsa deputy governor was not only painful to Bayelsa but also to Rivers people.
Fubara said it was important for his state to stand in solidarity with Bayelsa at such a difficult time, assuring the government and family of the deceased of Rivers State’s support.
He added that while words of condolence could not fully ease the pain of such a loss, divine comfort remained the ultimate source of strength.
In his response, Governor Diri thanked his Rivers counterpart for the visit, describing it as a clear demonstration of brotherhood and shared heritage between the two states.
He disclosed that Fubara was the first sitting governor to pay a condolence visit following the death of his deputy on December 11, noting that the gesture deeply touched the government and people of Bayelsa, as well as the Ewhrudjakpo family.
Diri reaffirmed the commitment of both states to continued cooperation, saying Bayelsa and Rivers had consistently worked together to resolve issues in the interest of their people.
He cited the peaceful resolution of the long-standing Soku oil well dispute as an example of effective collaboration between both administrations.
He stressed that Bayelsa and Rivers could not afford to be at odds, particularly as both states are governed by the same political party, adding that dialogue and partnership would remain the preferred approach in addressing future challenges.
Following the meeting at Government House, both governors proceeded to the official residence of the late deputy governor, where they condoled with his wife, Barrister Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo.
