NOA calls on Akwa Ibom youths to promote peace during Christmas festivities

As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged youths in Akwa Ibom State to embrace peace, eschew negative behaviors, and foster unity within their communities.
Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, the state Director of NOA, made the appeal on Monday in an interview with newsmen in Uyo, emphasising the importance of responsible celebration during the festive period.
“The Christmas and New Year season should not be used as an excuse for involvement in unlawful activities.
Instead, it presents an opportunity to promote love, peace, and goodwill in our communities,” Mkpoutom said.
He encouraged residents to reflect on the essence of Christmas, highlighting its spiritual significance as the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, a figure synonymous with peace, compassion, and forgiveness.
“Let’s use this period to enjoy ourselves responsibly and support others in need.
”This year’s festive season should be remembered for kindness, unity, and responsible celebration rather than violence or lawlessness,” Mkpoutom added.
The NOA director also stressed that the season offers a moment for relaxation and reconnection with family, friends, and the wider community.
He called on youths to embody the spirit of Christmas by extending goodwill and demonstrating empathy towards others.
By focusing on positive engagement and civic responsibility, the agency hopes to reinforce peace and harmony across the state during one of the most widely celebrated periods of the year.
