Fubara welcomes defecting lawmakers, hails move as boost for Rivers, APC

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has received members of the National Assembly who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), praising their action as bold, principled and forward-thinking.

The governor described the defections as a clear show of commitment to the overall development of Rivers State and the nation.

Governor Fubara also noted that the move reflects growing confidence in the APC-led administrations at both the state and federal levels.

Fubara further commended the defectors for aligning with earlier lawmakers who had also pitched their tents with the APC in support of his administration.

He specifically acknowledged Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, Boma Goodhead and Umezuruike Manuchim, who had previously defected from the Labour Party.

According to the governor, the latest development goes beyond routine political realignment. He described it as a strong endorsement of his decision to join the APC and a clear signal that a united and strategic political bloc is emerging in Rivers State.

Fubara noted that the growing alignment with the ruling party would help positioned Rivers State closer to the centre of national governance, thereby enhancing its ability to attract opportunities for accelerated growth, inclusive development and long-term sustainability.

He also stated that the expanding coalition mirrors the changes taking place at the federal level under President Bola Tinubu, adding that the momentum is in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Reaffirming his political stance ahead of the next general elections, Fubara pledged to deliver Rivers State for President Tinubu in the 2027 polls.

He also called on well-meaning residents of the state to embrace the APC, describing it as a platform for progressive politics anchored on peace, stability and shared prosperity.

The lawmakers who crossed over include Senators Allwell Onyesoh, representing Rivers East Senatorial District, and Barinada Mpigi of Rivers South-East.

Also joining the ruling party are members of the House of Representatives: Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke.
