IGP Egbetokun decorates 21 senior police officers, calls for ethical, results-driven leadership

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, officially decorated 21 newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, emphasising the need for integrity, professionalism, and results-oriented leadership in the discharge of their duties.

The ceremony took place at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and was described by the IGP as a significant milestone in the officers’ careers.

In his address, Egbetokun highlighted that the promotions reflected the institution’s confidence in the officers’ leadership abilities and their readiness to shoulder greater responsibilities within the Force.

He also commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring a fair, transparent, and merit-based promotion process.

He also acknowledged the support and sacrifices of the officers’ families, whose encouragement played a key role in their career progression.

The IGP urged the newly elevated officers to justify their promotions by maintaining the highest standards of ethics, accountability, and professionalism.

He stressed that effective, results-driven leadership is crucial not only for enhancing operational performance but also for strengthening public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

The decoration ceremony featured the elevation of one Assistant Inspector-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, seven Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police to substantive Commissioners of Police.

The promotions followed a comprehensive and transparent exercise conducted nationwide by the Police Service Commission, which saw a total of 1,210 officers promoted.

Among those decorated were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel; Assistant Inspectors-General of Police Ihebom M. Chukwuma, Olatokunbo Maxwell Olabisi, Abaniwonda Surajudeen Olufemi, Lawal Babtunde Ayodeji, Emmanuel Agene, Alonyenu Francis Iduh, and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo.

Commissioners of Police who were elevated included Johnson Ayodeji Babalola, Adepegba K. Adetoye, Tabitha Bako, Umar Ali Fagge, Audu Garba Bosso, Edwin Esiunnoh Ogbeghegha, Arikpo Ofem Ikpi, Cyril Uchenna Obiozo, Samuel Yerima Gimba, Alhaji Mohammed Danladi, Richard Bala Gara, Lasisi A. Titilola, and Obuagbaka C. John.

The ceremony, marked by pomp and solemnity, reinforced the Force’s commitment to promoting excellence, meritocracy, and ethical leadership within the Nigeria Police.
