Oborevwori reiterates commitment to people-focused governance in Delta

Gôvernor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to citizen-centered governance in the state.

Oborevwori emphasised that the task of building a prosperous and peaceful State is a collective responsibility shared by both the government and the people.

The governor represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, ,made this known on Tuesday in Asaba during the Oshimili South Local Government Area empowerment programme

He stressed that meaningful and sustainable development could only thrive in an environment of peace, cooperation and mutual understanding.

Oborevwori said his administration was deliberately pursuing policies and programmes that place the welfare of citizens at the heart of governance.

He called on residents of the state to complement government efforts by maintaining peace and safeguarding public infrastructure.

“We are committed to building a Delta State where governance truly serves the people.

”However, this vision can only be achieved if citizens also play their part by promoting peace and protecting public assets meant for the common good,” the governor said.

He commended the Council Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili, for his consistency and foresight in aligning local government initiatives with the state government’s MORE Agenda.

According to him, such synergy ensures that development efforts are impactful and reach the grassroots.

Oborevwori described the empowerment programme as a vital driver of grassroots development, adding that it reflects the administration’s determination to deliver the dividends of democracy to communities across the state.

“As we draw closer to the end of the year, there is no better way to embrace the spirit of the season than by empowering our people and equipping them with the means to secure a sustainable livelihood,” he said.

He explained that the empowerment exercise is a practical demonstration of the MORE Agenda in action, adding that empowerment goes beyond the distribution of funds or materials.

“Empowerment is about building economic resilience, reducing poverty and strengthening human capital.

”The support given today is a seed. In difficult economic times, success often depends on how well small opportunities are managed,” he advised.

Oborevwori urged beneficiaries to exercise discipline and prudence.

Earlier in his remarks, the Council Chairman, Dr Kelvin Ezenyili, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, skills development and the promotion of small-scale enterprises within the council area.

He said the programme, particularly timed to coincide with the festive season, was aimed at supporting small business owners who require modest financial assistance to expand their operations.

According to him, beneficiaries are receiving sums ranging from N50,000 to acquire essential equipment to N100,000 to restock shops and strengthen their businesses.

Ezenyili noted that the initiative was part of a broader strategy to boost local economic activities, reduce unemployment and improve the standard of living of residents in the area.
