PDP condemns Christmas eve Mosque explosion in Maiduguri, urges swift government action

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong condemnation of the Christmas Eve explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, describing the tragic event as a stark indicator of the growing insecurity across Nigeria.
In a statement released on December 24, 2025, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ini Ememobong, the PDP criticised the federal government’s perceived inability to safeguard citizens’ lives and properties.
The party said the attack highlighted the persistent dangers Nigerians face, even while engaging in religious worship.
“The news of an explosion in a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, is yet another sad reminder of the rising insecurity confronting Nigerians.
”This reality is deeply troubling and unacceptable,” the statement read in part.
The opposition party argued that protecting lives and property is the most basic duty of any government.
“The administration has failed to provide this fundamental protection, opting instead for rhetoric and political posturing while the people remain vulnerable,” the PDP said.
Expressing heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, the party said: “We mourn with those who have lost loved ones in this senseless act.
”No individual should face death while worshipping God.”
Beyond the immediate loss, the PDP warned that repeated attacks on placed of worship could have far-reaching consequences, noting that such violence not only violates constitutional rights but also threatens social cohesion and fosters fear within communities.
The statement urged both federal and state governments to implement immediate and practical measures to enhance security, particularly during festive periods when large gatherings are common.
“It is imperative that authorities take decisive and concrete steps to protect citizens, not just during the yuletide season but at all times.
”Empty promises and political rhetoric are insufficient. Nigerians deserve actionable strategies to curb this escalating insecurity,” the party emphasised.
The explosion in Gamboru Market marked yet another grim reminder of the challenges Nigeria faces in securing its citizens from ongoing violent attacks, raising urgent questions about the effectiveness of current security strategies.
