Tinubu to outline Nigeria’s climate, sustainability agenda at Abu Dhabi summit

President Bola Tinubu is set to present Nigeria’s position on climate change and sustainable development at the ongoing Sustainability Summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The announcement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar on Monday in Abuja, noting that the president would engage global leaders on Nigeria’s climate priorities while highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable development.
Speaking to journalists, Tuggar said Tinubu would use the summit to clarify Nigeria’s stance in international climate discussions.
“It’s not just about averting climate change, but doing it in such a way that it is sustainable,” he explained.
The president is attending the summit at the invitation of UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is expected to make a formal presentation to world leaders at the annual gathering.
Tuggar added, “All I can tell you is that he is going to talk about Nigeria’s focus in terms of deliverables vis-à-vis climate change.”
Beyond climate advocacy, Tinubu aims to strengthen economic and investment ties between Nigeria and the UAE.
Tuggar revealed that the president plans to use the platform to address gaps in project preparation and attract international funding for clearly defined climate and sustainability projects.
“This presents an opportunity to come with identified projects and try and source funding from some of the countries and organisations that will be in attendance,” the minister said.
Tuggar also highlighted Nigeria’s intention to deepen partnerships formed during last year’s summit, signaling continuity in international engagement on climate and sustainable development initiatives.
As part of his visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) would be discussed and expected to be signed.
The agreement is designed to provide investment protection for Nigerian and UAE investors, boost investor confidence, and safeguard the interests of Nigerians operating in Dubai and other parts of the UAE.
“For us, we want to ensure that the dignity of Nigerians is upheld and Nigerians are respected wherever they go to invest or visit,” Tuggar said.
