Fire destroys tankers, 17 tricycles in Kano

Two separate fires at filling stations in Kano State on Tuesday evening destroyed two fuel tankers and 17 tricycles, authorities confirmed, though no casualties were reported.

The first blaze broke out at AA Ayagi Filling Station in Kanye Village, Gwarzo Road, Kabo Local Government Area, around 8:45 p.m. according to Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service.

Firefighters from the Rijiyar Zaki division rushed to the scene and found a petrol tanker fully ablaze while discharging fuel into underground storage.

Three compartments containing about 5,000 litres of fuel were being offloaded when the fire started, resulting in the total loss of the tanker.

The second incident occurred at Al-Wahida Nigeria Limited filling station in Rimin Kebe, Karshen Kwalta, Nassarawa Local Government Area.

A tanker carrying approximately 45,000 litres of petroleum caught fire, damaging the vehicle and completely destroying 17 tricycles parked nearby.

Firefighters contained the blaze before it spread further, salvaging some fuel and tanker parts.

In a related event, a fire broke out at a residential building in Kundila Quarters near SALSA College, destroying a room, a toilet, and a corridor.

Kano State Fire Service Director Sani Anas urged filling station operators and tanker drivers to strictly adhere to safety protocols during fuel handling and offloading.

“Strict compliance with safety measures is essential to prevent avoidable fire disasters,” he said.
