ADC says honouring fallen heroes should go beyond wreaths, speeches

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for deeper reflection and action in commemorating Nigeria’s fallen heroes, stating that remembrance should go beyond ceremonial wreath-laying and formal speeches.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in observance of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
He emphasised that the day should inspire leadership that genuinely prioritised the welfare and security of Nigerians.
Abdullahi said ADC joined the nation in honouring the bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism of those who gave their lives defending the country.
He, however, expressed concern over the absence of the President at the event.
“The presence of the Commander-in-Chief is not optional; it represents respect, responsibility, and shared sacrifice.
”Recognising the fallen should be more than symbolism—it requires commitment to the men and women serving our nation,” he stated.
The ADC also commended the military families, acknowledging that their sacrifices often go beyond what governance or policy can fully recognise.
