CAF suspends Samuel Eto’o for 4 matches

Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has been handed a four-match suspension and fined $20,000 for alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s loss to Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary committee issued the sanction following investigations into incidents during the quarterfinals, including matches involving Cameroon-Morocco and Algeria-Nigeria.
While CAF did not specify the exact nature of Eto’o’s offence, footage showed the football legend gesturing angrily toward his Moroccan counterpart, Fouzi Lekjaa, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe in attendance.
FECAFOOT expressed strong objections to the ruling on Wednesday, stating that it “lacks any explicit justification” and raising concerns about the “expedited procedure” that, in its view, undermines fair trial principles.
The federation added: “FECAFOOT reaffirms its unwavering support for its president and its commitment to upholding the principles governing credible disciplinary justice.”
Eto’o’s suspension marks a controversial moment for the Cameroonian football body, which insists it will continue defending its leader amid CAF’s disciplinary actions.
