Equatorial Guinea shifts capital from Malabo to Ciudad de La Paz

Equatorial Guinea has officially changed its capital city from Malabo to Ciudad de La Paz, following a presidential decree.
The move, long under consideration for nearly two decades, relocates the seat of government from Bioko Island to the mainland.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo cited strategic reasons for the decision, including the urban growth of Malabo and the benefits of positioning the capital in the heart of the mainland’s Equatorial forest.
The decree mandated that presidential services, government agencies, and public enterprises complete the transfer from Malabo within one year.
It did not indicate whether foreign embassies would also be required to move.
The relocation represents a major administrative shift for the Central African nation and is expected to influence its political and economic planning in the coming years.
