Gov. Eno empowers widows of fallen heroes

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has unveiled plans to empower the widows of fallen service members by providing 150 lock-up shops and business grants to help sustain their livelihoods and care for their children.
The announcement was made during the wreath-laying ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Uyo on Thursday.
Eno said the initiative was part of the state government’s effort to improve the living conditions of the widows while also extending support to members of the Nigerian Legion and other paramilitary forces.
“This annual observance recognises the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the peace and security of Nigeria,” Eno said.
He also called for interreligious tolerance and urged Nigerians to show respect for the nation’s service members, noting that such recognition motivates continued dedication.
The ceremony featured traditional tributes to the fallen heroes, including a wreath-laying at the tomb of the unknown soldier, a 21-gun salute, and the symbolic release of doves.
