4 Rivers lawmakers reaffirm support for Gov. Fubara’s impeachment

Four members of the Rivers House of Assembly have reversed their earlier positions and recommitted to the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
At a press conference on Friday in Port Harcourt, the lawmakers, Sylvanus Enyinna Nwankwo (Minority Leader, Omuma Constituency), Peter Abbey (Degema), Barile Nwakoh (Khana I), and Emilia Amadi (Obio/Akpor II)—stated that the governor and his deputy had shown no remorse over allegations raised against them.
Nwankwo said, “we have reconsidered our position and recommit fully to the impeachment process.
”The governor has continued to ignore the constitutional mandate of this House and has shown no remorse over the allegations raised against him and his deputy.”
The lawmakers explained that their reversal came after reviewing developments since the House failed to reconvene plenary following an adjournment amid rising tension over the impeachment process.
Abbey added, “It is clear that previous attempts to reach a political solution have failed.
”We are determined to proceed with this constitutional process to protect the integrity of the legislature and uphold the rule of law in Rivers State.”
Emilia Amadi emphasised that while the House is open to a political resolution, the executive’s alleged defiance makes the constitutional process necessary.
Barile Nwakoh clarified that impeachment is strictly a constitutional mechanism for checks and balances, not influenced by ethnic considerations.
The four lawmakers’ renewed support marked a critical turning point in the impeachment saga, which has involved political maneuvering, public debate, and judicial warnings.
The Rivers State Government is yet to respond to this development.
