Shettima represents Nigeria in Guinea, heads to Davos forum

Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea-Conakry’s President-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya, before proceeding to Switzerland for the 56th Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
The Vice President would attend the inauguration ceremony at the GLC Stadium in Nongo, Conakry, on Saturday, January 17.
His participation underscores Nigeria’s role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), signaling continued support for Guinea’s return to constitutional governance after a four-year political transition.
Beyond diplomacy, the visit has economic significance. Nigeria’s exports to Guinea, including manufactured goods and agricultural produce, recently reached $3.3 million, highlighting growing commercial engagement.
Analysts said Shettima’s presence could foster expanded trade, investment, and bilateral cooperation, reinforcing Nigeria’s regional influence.
Following the Conakry engagement, Shettima would attend the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos from January 19 to 23, 2026.
The forum, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” would gather global leaders from government, business, science, and civil society to discuss pressing international issues and collaborative solutions.
Key discussions would focus on frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced biotechnology, and next-generation energy systems.
Delegates would examine strategies for responsible technology deployment, workforce skills development, inclusive growth, and sustainable development, with an emphasis on emerging markets like Nigeria.
During the forum, Shettima is expected to engage with international investors, highlight Nigeria’s economic reforms, showcase investment opportunities, and articulate Africa’s growing role in shaping global economic resilience.
Officials said the trip combines diplomatic engagement, economic advocacy, and global networking, in line with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Vice President would return to Nigeria after completing his engagements in Switzerland.
