NJC forwards 14 judge names to Tinubu

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 14 candidates to President Bola Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court, following a review process that included security and integrity checks.
The recommendation was made during the council’s 110th meeting, which took place between January 13 and 14, 2026, in Abuja.
The meeting was chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
In a statement released on Thursday, the NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Ogedengbe, said all shortlisted candidates were cleared after relevant security agencies submitted reports showing no adverse findings against any of them.
She explained that the council’s decision was guided by due process and established judicial appointment standards.
According to the NJC, the recommended candidates are to fill vacancies at the Federal High Court, a key institution that handles matters relating to federal revenue, admiralty, intellectual property, and other specialised areas of law.
