The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially inducted 1,350 corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 orientation exercise in Bayelsa State.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, on Friday.
The Bayelsa Chief Judge, Justice Matilda Ayimieye, was represented by Justice Inikade Eradiri, who administered the Oath of Allegiance to the corps members.
Welcoming the participants, NYSC Bayelsa Coordinator, Daniel Pepple, confirmed that all registered corps members were attentive and disciplined during the orientation.
He noted that the 21-day programme would prepare them for their primary assignments, provide skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training, and promote teamwork essential for productive service.
“The country needs committed young people now more than ever. You must be responsible and uphold the values instilled during this orientation,” Pepple said, commending Governor Douye Diri for ensuring the camp is well-equipped and comfortable for both corps members and their commandants.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Alfred Kemepadei, Gôvernor Diri emphasised the importance of respect and discipline throughout the NYSC service.
He encouraged the participants to leverage ICT and other skills to enhance their learning and contribution during national service.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to the welfare and safety of all corps members during their service in Bayelsa.
