Nigeria’s survival hinges on unity, Gbajabiamila warns as ex-lawmakers endorse Tinubu for 2027

The Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has underscored that Nigeria’s survival and relevance in a volatile global environment depend on national unity, describing cohesion as a strategic imperative rather than a moral choice.

Speaking at the 2026 National Summit of the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL) in Abuja, themed “National Unity and Nation Building Beyond 2031,” Gbajabiamila stressed that internal disunity could weaken Nigeria’s capacity to operate effectively on the world stage.

He warned that prolonged divisions magnify risks, transmit insecurity across generations, and erode the country’s ability to protect its interests.

Quoting Nigeria’s Constitution, he emphasised that the country was founded as a united entity, not a collection of rival camps.

He further cautioned against identity-driven politics, noting that ethnic and religious mobilisation for political advantage undermines national stability.

Gbajabiamila also highlighted government initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion and balanced development, including:
Creation of development commissions in all six geopolitical zones among others.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising equity, inclusion, and national cohesion, and reiterated that the rotational presidency between North and South is a stabilizing arrangement that should not be endangered by personal ambition.

The NFFL, representing former members of the National Assembly, formally adopted President Tinubu as their sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The forum also called for rotational presidency to be entrenched in the Constitution as a permanent mechanism to promote national cohesion beyond 2031.

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria, urging leaders and citizens to uphold democratic principles, justice, and national cohesion.
