President Tinubu begins State visit to Turkey Monday

President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Monday for an official state visit to the Republic of Turkey, marking another step in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with key international partners.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the visit is designed to expand cooperation between Nigeria and Turkey across several strategic sectors.
These include security, education, aviation, innovation, and social development, areas both countries have identified as critical to their long-term partnership.
The trip builds on earlier diplomatic engagements between Abuja and Ankara, particularly the 2021 visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Nigeria, which helped consolidate bilateral relations and opened new channels for collaboration.
During the visit, President Tinubu and Turkish authorities are expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic talks.
Discussions will focus on shared priorities in finance, communications, trade, and investment, with the aim of unlocking new economic opportunities for both nations.
The programme will also feature meetings between senior officials from Nigeria and Turkey, alongside the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding.
These agreements are expected to cover areas such as scientific research, energy development, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and diplomatic protocol.
A Nigeria–Turkey business forum will be held on the sidelines of the visit, bringing together investors and business leaders from both countries to explore partnerships and expand commercial ties.
Members of the Nigerian delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Other officials travelling with the President are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the visit.
