APC dismisses reports of Shettima’s replacement as Tinubu’s 2027 running mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described speculation about Vice President Kashim Shettima being replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 elections as “mischievous” and baseless.

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka addressed the rumours on Channels Television Politics Today on Monday.

He emphasised that electoral activities are still prohibited under the law, making such speculation premature.

He said the reports were intended to sow discord and confusion and reiterated the party’s focus on governance and economic recovery rather than election speculation.

Morka also reassured the public about the party’s commitment to inclusivity and stated that when the time comes, APC will handle the conversation about running mates responsibly.

Despite repeated official denials, political blocs have continued to circulate high-profile names.

Speculation initially gained traction in mid-2025 when Shettima’s image was reportedly omitted from official APC banners and North-East stakeholders’ meetings created confusion about endorsements.

The APC leadership has consistently labeled all reports of replacing Shettima as purely speculative, untrue, and baseless.
