FG commends Funke Akindele for N2bn box office milestone

The Federal Government, through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has praised actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele after her film, Behind the Scenes, crossed the historic N2 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.
This achievement makes her Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker.
The film has also performed well internationally, earning over $111,000 in Canada and $190,000 across North America, highlighting Nollywood’s growing global appeal.
Behind the Scenes now ranks as the highest-grossing Nollywood film across Africa, the UK, and Ireland, and marks Akindele as the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
Akindele attributed her success to discipline, faith, and commitment to storytelling, emphasizing that “records are milestones, not the mission.”
The government’s recognition underlines calls for continued support for Nigeria’s creative industry.
