The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), under the leadership of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, convened behind closed doors on Wednesday at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, in what is being described as a high-level political consultation ahead of the ruling party’s national convention.
Governors in attendance included Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom). Governors Dikko Radda (Katsina), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe) were absent but represented by their deputies.
The meeting also included members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), led by party Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.
While the full agenda remains undisclosed, part of the discussion reportedly focused on the ongoing electronic registration exercise, the conduct of ward and local government congresses, and other national and party-related issues.
Observers noted that the meeting comes at a critical period as the party prepares for its national convention scheduled for March.
Governor Uzodimma briefed journalists after the session, stressing the Forum’s commitment to deepening democracy within the party and across the federation.
He highlighted the importance of the e-registration exercise, noting that it will strengthen the party’s data-driven base.
“The Forum reaffirmed its collective commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party structures, and advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness across all levels of the federation,” the communique read.
The PGF also reviewed and endorsed the proposed timetable and institutional framework for upcoming Ward, Local Government, State, Zonal Congresses, and the National Convention, as approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The Forum underscored the importance of transparent financial management to ensure fairness, consistency, and accountability, including in states without APC-led administrations.
“The PGF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to party unity and internal harmony.
The Forum emphasised responsible leadership communication and collective discipline as essential to strengthening public confidence in the party’s democratic processes,” the statement added.
