Bayelsa Govt assumes care for crash victims

The Bayelsa State Government has assumed full responsibility for the medical treatment of victims injured in a road traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday near Toru-Orua on the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road.

Commissioner for Health, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, disclosed that Governor Douye Diri promptly directed him and other medical personnel to ensure that all survivors receive immediate and adequate medical attention.

Brisibe clarified reports circulating online that claimed 10 people died in the crash involving an 18-seater bus, describing such claims as inaccurate.

He confirmed that two fatalities were recorded.

According to him, the remaining victims were rescued and stabilised following swift emergency intervention by government ambulance teams stationed along the Sagbama–Ekeremor axis.

The teams had been deployed to provide medical support during the burial activities of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in Ofoni.

The Health Commissioner added that the injured persons were taken to Sagbama General Hospital and the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri, where they are currently responding positively to treatment.

He assured the public of the government’s continued commitment to emergency response and quality healthcare delivery across the state.
