INEC brings voter registration closer to Citizens in Rivers State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Rivers State will now be conducted at the Registration Area (RA) and Ward levels.
The move, effective February 2, 2026, aimed to boost voter participation, particularly at the grassroots, by making registration more accessible to eligible citizens.
The exercise would run for 50 days on a rotational basis across the 319 wards in the state.
INEC emphasised that the decentralised registration would accommodate citizens who are registering for the first time, transferring their registration, replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correcting errors in voter records.
The Commission called on community leaders, civil society organisations, political parties, media, and other stakeholders to support public awareness efforts and ensure a smooth, peaceful registration process.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and democratic voter registration exercise.
