PDP faction dismisses court ruling, insists Turaki-led leadership remains valid

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has downplayed the Federal High Court (FHC), Ibadan judgment nullifying its November 15, 2025, national convention, insisting that the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) remains valid.

Justice Uche Agomhoh had barred the Tanimu Turaki–led NWC from parading itself as the party’s leadership, while recognising the caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the official NWC until a valid convention is conducted.

In response, the factional PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, stated that the court declined to grant the mandamus sought, which would have amounted to sitting on appeal over other courts’ decisions.

The party has instructed its legal team to file an appeal and pursue all available avenues to protect its position.

Ememobong emphasised, “Notwithstanding this judgment, the Kabiru Turaki–led Peoples Democratic Party, which emerged from the Ibadan convention, remains legally intact and unshaken, as we await the authoritative pronouncement of the appellate courts.”

The party also urged members nationwide to stay calm, committed, and assured them that “there is absolutely no cause for alarm,” reaffirming that the REBIRTH movement remains on course.
