Bayelsa Govt. to probe Amassoma death

The Bayelsa State Government has confirmed its awareness of the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Peresuodei Abbah, a resident of Amassoma community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
In a statement from the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the state expressed deep sympathy to the family, friends, and people of Amassoma over the loss.
The statement was signed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo, SAN, on behalf of the Bayelsa State government.
The government reassured the public that justice would be pursued and that anyone found responsible would be made to answer for their actions in line with the law.
Acting on the directive of Governor Douye Diri, the Ministry of Justice has assumed a central role in the matter.
The Attorney-General’s office is working in close collaboration with the Bayelsa State Police Command and other relevant security agencies to ensure that investigations are comprehensive, unbiased, and transparent.
According to the statement, investigations have progressed significantly, with security agencies already obtaining crucial information and recorded statements from key witnesses connected to the incident.
The government emphasised its determination to fully uncover the facts surrounding the death, assuring residents that no aspect of the case would be overlooked.
The governor has further instructed that once investigations are concluded, the Office of the Attorney-General will formally take over the case to handle prosecution where necessary.
The government also appealed to the public to remain calm, exercise restraint, and avoid speculation or the circulation of unverified reports that could hinder investigations or heighten tension within the community.
