Oborevwori commissions Omadino model technical college

There was excitement on Monday in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area, as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, inaugurated the newly completed Model Technical College, describing technical and vocational education as a key solution to youth unemployment.
The governor said graduates of technical institutions were better positioned to become skilled professionals, innovators and employers of labour rather than depend solely on white-collar jobs.
He described the Omadino college as a major investment and a flagship project of his administration in the drive to strengthen vocational and technical education in the state.
Oborevwori noted that some achievements spoke louder when seen, stressing that within two years his administration had delivered critical projects without resorting to borrowing or placing additional financial pressure on Deltans.
He explained that prompt payment to contractors ensured timely completion of projects, including the technical college.
He disclosed that academic activities had already commenced at the college prior to its formal inauguration, a move he said underscored the readiness and operational capacity of the institution.
According to him, the school represents a significant step forward in equipping young people with practical and globally relevant skills.
Highlighting the facilities on ground, the governor said the institution reflected careful planning and disciplined execution, with well-laid internal roads, administrative offices, classrooms, workshops and laboratories designed to support quality teaching and learning.
He commended former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for initiating the project and said his administration was committed to completing inherited projects to acceptable standards.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of training at the college, citing the confidence and composure of a student who addressed the gathering as evidence of effective instruction.
He added that modern educational facilities enhanced learning outcomes, improved staff performance and fostered pride among students and educators.
Oborevwori assured that education would remain a priority under the MORE Agenda, pledging continued upgrades of schools across the state to ensure access to functional education and skills that meet global standards.
He, however, appealed to school authorities, students and host communities to protect and properly maintain government facilities, describing them as collective assets of the people.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the Omadino Model Technical College as a symbol of transformation and purposeful governance.
He said the institution was equipped with 12 classrooms and nine modern workshops, alongside hostels, staff quarters, a principal’s residence and accommodation for corps members.
Other facilities include a dining hall, clinic, multipurpose hall, football pitch and basketball court, as well as support infrastructure such as a generator house and operational quarters.
Ufoh disclosed that academic activities began in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students, noting strong interest from Omadino and neighbouring communities.
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, praised the governor for what he described as impactful leadership and visible development across the state.
He listed major projects in Warri, including roads, drainage systems, the Trans-Warri Road and the near-completed Warri Modern Stadium, describing the technical college as another landmark achievement.
The Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, also commended the governor for investing in riverine communities and urged sustained development of schools, roads, bridges and jetties in coastal areas.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Courtney Omotoyine described the commissioning as a dream come true and a major step toward securing the future of young people in Delta State, urging her colleagues to make responsible use of the facilities and strive for excellence.
