Odigie-Oyegun heads ADC manifesto committee

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has been appointed chairman of a 50-member committee to draft the manifesto of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The committee was inaugurated on Monday by the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who charged members to develop a people-centred manifesto capable of addressing widespread poverty and national challenges.

Mark criticised the APC-led Federal Government’s economic, security and health policies, describing the situation as unprecedented and in need of urgent alternatives.

He urged the committee to craft policies that would resonate with Nigerians and position the ADC as a credible platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The oath of office was administered to committee members by the party’s legal adviser.

In his remarks, Odigie-Oyegun said many Nigerians had lost confidence in the ruling party and were now watching closely to see what alternatives opposition parties would offer.

He pledged that the committee would work to produce a manifesto reflecting the aspirations of citizens.

Odigie-Oyegun, a former governor of Edo State, emerged as APC national chairman in 2014 after the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change and All Nigeria Peoples Party. He later left the APC.

The ADC was formally adopted by an opposition coalition in July 2025 as its political platform for the 2027 elections, with party leaders vowing to rebuild democratic institutions and reverse what they described as democratic decline under the APC.

In September 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission formally recognised the ADC leadership led by Senator Mark, a former Senate President.

Other officials recognised by INEC include Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser, Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer and Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary.
