NECO 2025 SSCE external results show 71.63% pass rate

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results for external candidates, reporting that 71.63 per cent achieved five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

NECO Registrar Danlami Wushishi revealed that 96,979 candidates registered nationwide, with 95,160 sitting for the exams.

Among them, 50,785 were male and 44,375 female candidates. English Language recorded a 78.32 per cent credit pass rate, while Mathematics saw 91.35 per cent of candidates achieving credit and above.

Despite the overall performance, NECO noted a rise in malpractice cases.

A total of 9,016 candidates were booked for cheating, up from 6,160 in 2024, marking a 31.7 per cent increase.

Four examination centres—two in Niger, one in Yobe, and one in Lagos—were implicated in whole-centre malpractice and recommended for de-recognition.

Also, supervisors in FCT, Kano, and Lagos were slated for sanctions.

Wushishi reiterated NECO’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its examinations, urging stakeholders to avoid practices that undermine the process.

The council also highlighted that 86.26 per cent of candidates obtained five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics, reflecting a strong overall performance among external candidates.
