Fubara confirms October completion for Ring Road

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has assured residents that the over 50km Port Harcourt Ring Road project will be completed by October this year, promising improved mobility and urban decongestion.

The governor gave the assurance during an inspection of the ongoing road project on Tuesday.

The highway spans at least five local government areas across the state.

Fubara said the construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, has reaffirmed its commitment to deliver the project on schedule, contingent on consistent funding from the state government.

Despite prevailing fiscal challenges, he pledged that his administration will continue to make funds available, ensuring uninterrupted progress and meeting the projected timeline.

“If you remember, the project was planned for 36 months. We are close to that mark and assessing progress is crucial,” Fubara said during the site visit.

He added, “The company assures us the road will be delivered by October. I strongly believe in this promise to my people. What they need is funding, and I will provide it.”

The governor described the Ring Road as a strategic infrastructure project conceived by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and vital to Rivers State’s long-term urban and economic development.

Fubara noted that completing the road will fulfil Wike’s vision and earn public appreciation, highlighting its importance for present and future generations of Rivers residents.

“This project is significant due to the vision of my predecessor. Achieving it at record time will benefit our people and advance state development,” the governor stated.

The Port Harcourt Ring Road project began at the start of Fubara’s administration with a projected completion of 36 months, aiming to improve traffic flow and access to residential and industrial zones.

Upon completion, the highway is expected to serve as a major bypass around Port Harcourt, reducing congestion, enhancing transportation networks, and boosting connectivity within Rivers State.
