Wike confirms meeting Tinubu with Fubara

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, confirmed a Monday meeting with Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara and President Bola Tinubu, aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state.

Wike said the initiative came from President Tinubu to broker peace between Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He expressed hope the intervention would end the dispute.

“I have told the assembly to do the needful and obey Mr. President. I believe the governor will also play his part to ensure final peace,” Wike stated after inspecting projects in Abuja.

The meeting followed reports of high-level consultations at the Presidential Villa on Sunday, where key Rivers leaders sought to ease tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

After the discussions, Fubara reportedly accompanied Wike to his Abuja residence, signaling a temporary truce, though the longevity of the agreement remains uncertain amid ongoing litigation.

The intervention comes as lawmakers loyal to Wike issued a third impeachment notice against Fubara, raising questions about whether pro-Wike legislators will withdraw their move.

Key issues discussed likely included Fubara’s alleged second-term ambitions and whether he would surrender political leadership, both demands associated with Wike’s camp.

Despite the high-level engagement, the state awaits clarity on concrete outcomes, leaving the public and political observers uncertain about lasting resolution in Rivers State.
