Fubara inspects Ring road, promises October 2026 completion

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has resumed inspection of major infrastructure projects across the state, following President Bola Tinubu’s renewed intervention in the lingering political dispute between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

During the tour, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the 50.15-kilometre Port Harcourt dual carriage Ring Road, assuring residents that the project would be delivered by October 2026.

The governor credited his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, with conceiving the landmark project, describing him as the originator of the vision behind the Ring Road.

“For me, this project is very important considering the person who conceived it, my Oga, the Honourable Minister.

”He had a very big ambition and believed that if this project is delivered in record time, Rivers people will be happy with my administration,” Fubara said.

He stressed that political developments would not deter him from completing the project.

“Notwithstanding whatever is happening, it is my wish and responsibility to see that this vision is fulfilled.

”This explains the importance we attach to the project as a government and as a people,” he added.

The governor noted that the Ring Road was initially designed for completion within 36 months and said progress is steadily on track.

The inspection tour began at Refinery Junction in Eleme, passed through Iriebe and parts of Obio/Akpor, and concluded at the river-crossing bridge linking key sections of the road.

“From what is visible to everyone, a lot has been achieved. From our discussions, the contractors have assured us that the project will be delivered by October,” Fubara stated, expressing confidence that sustained funding and administrative support would meet the deadline.

Flagged off in July 2023, the 50.15-kilometre Ring Road project includes five flyovers and a river-crossing bridge.

It is designed to connect more than six local government areas and ease traffic congestion within Port Harcourt and surrounding communities.
