Fresh bird strike hits United Nigeria flight

United Nigeria Airlines has confirmed another bird strike involving one of its Airbus A320 aircraft in Abuja, marking the second such incident within 24 hours.
The airline said the latest occurrence brings the total number of bird strikes recorded by the carrier in 2026 to four.
In a statement on Sunday, the company disclosed that the affected aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service for detailed technical inspection.
It noted that the precautionary move aligns with strict aviation safety and regulatory standards governing aircraft operations.
As a result, two Airbus aircraft have now been grounded, leading to disruptions across parts of the airline’s domestic network.
The carrier warned that some scheduled flights may experience delays or cancellations while safety checks are being completed.
United Nigeria Airlines apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and assured them that efforts were underway to minimise disruptions.
The airline reiterated that the aircraft would only return to service after comprehensive airworthiness assessments.
Bird strikes remain a known aviation hazard worldwide, particularly during take-off and landing, and typically require mandatory inspections before further operations.
