3 arraigned over Nigerian driver’s death

Three South Africans have been arraigned over the alleged killing of 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlat, in Pretoria.

The suspects appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on charges of premeditated murder and robbery.

They were identified as Dikeledi Tears Mphela, Goitsione Machidi and McClaren Mushwana.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the accused allegedly ordered the ride using an unregistered mobile number on February 11, 2026.

Prosecutors said two suspects entered the vehicle while others followed in a separate car.

The victim was allegedly forced to stop before being strangled and robbed of his phone and vehicle.

Authorities said dashboard camera footage captured the attack and later circulated widely on social media.

Police recovered the hijacked car with Satlat’s body inside.

The NPA disclosed that the suspects abandoned their bail application.
The matter was adjourned to February 23 for further investigations.

A fourth suspect reportedly surrendered to police and is expected to face charges.
Investigators from the South African Police Service carried out the arrests between February 13 and 15.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Federal Government condemned the killing through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.

NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa demanded justice and prosecution of those responsible.

She described the rising attacks on Nigerians in South Africa as troubling and urged authorities to ensure protection for foreign nationals.
