Diri hails late Mitin as Ijaw cultural icon

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa has praised the late Chief Tamaraumieyefa Mitin as a leading ambassador of Ijaw culture and heritage.
Speaking at a service of songs in Mitin’s honor on Wednesday, Diri described him as a dedicated promoter of Ijaw values and traditions.
Mitin, former Regent of Oporomor Kingdom, played a key role in Bayelsa Government initiatives to revive the Ijaw language through radio programmes.
The governor called Mitin a friend and brother, highlighting his tireless efforts to preserve Ijaw language, customs, and community traditions.
He also acknowledged Mitin’s family, noting that he was the father of Mr. Living Mitin, representing Ekeremor Constituency 2 in the Bayelsa House of Assembly.
“Mitin loved the Ijaw ethnic nationality without reservation. He also cherished his community.
”May God grant him eternal rest and give his family strength to bear this loss,” Diri said.
Frank Enekorogha, former National Assembly member for Burutu Federal Constituency, praised Mitin’s inclusive nature, saying he embraced people from all backgrounds.
“Mitin meant different things to different people. He was a good man and will be missed dearly,” Enekorogha added.
Speaking for the family, Mr. Famous Daunemugha said Mitin’s death left a huge void and thanked the Bayelsa Government for supporting them during the period of grief.
