Niger Delta games draws hold in Benin

All athletes, officials and functionaries for the 2nd Niger Delta Games are expected to arrive in Benin, Edo State, on Thursday.

Organisers confirmed that the official draws will take place at the Media Centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Project Director, Fred Edoreh, announced February 18 as the designated arrival date for contingents and competition officials.

He said arrangements had been concluded to receive athletes and coaches at Benson Idahosa University.

Edoreh expressed satisfaction with the hostel facilities prepared for participants.

According to him, the accommodation will provide comfort and motivate athletes toward outstanding performances.

Chairman of the Technical Committee, Enefiok Udo-Obong, disclosed that draws would primarily cover the ball games.

He stated that no state would be seeded, as all participating states are considered equal.

Udo-Obong explained that procedures for individual events would be determined at a technical meeting.

The meeting was held at the VIP box of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Technical heads representing the 16 sporting events attended the session.

Nine states from the Niger Delta region would participate in the games.

Fixtures would be determined after pooling the states, producing four matches per game day.

The event is organised by Dunamis-Icon Limited, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, February 20, the competitions would run through February 27 in Benin.

Bayelsa State won the maiden edition held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 2025.

Organisers said preparations are complete for a successful second edition of the regional sporting fiesta.
