Tinubu urges peace during Lent, Ramadan

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to use the 2026 Lenten and Ramadan observances to promote unity, stability, and pray for the country’s security.

In a statement personally signed on Wednesday, Tinubu said Lent is a period of fasting, abstinence, and reflection for Christians, following the example of Jesus Christ before His crucifixion.

He explained that Ramadan is a sacred time for Muslims, emphasizing total submission to God, sacrifice, service, devotion, and communal love, marking one of the five pillars of Islam.

Highlighting that both observances began on the same day this year, the President said it is a reminder that Nigerians share common values as people of faith.

“As a nation, let us embrace good neighbourliness, promote peace, unity, and pray for national progress and security,” he urged, stressing the importance of living by the precepts of faith.

Tinubu prayed that the lessons, blessings, and joys of the Lenten and Ramadan seasons would guide Nigerians to act honourably toward God and fellow humans throughout the year.
