Education as a catalyst for societal transformation – Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has emphasised that education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming society
Speaking on Thursday at Government House, Asaba, during a courtesy visit from Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited, Oborevwori praised the company for its continuous investment in education, youth empowerment, technical skill development, and community support.
The governor highlighted the impact of the company’s scholarship programs, stating, “Investing in students today secures the future of our state tomorrow.”
He also commended the company for its strong safety record, noting over seven million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury—a testament to discipline and professionalism in a high-risk sector.
Oborevwori reiterated that responsible businesses must align growth with social responsibility and assured that his administration would continue to provide an enabling environment for sustainable private sector engagement.
He encouraged the company to expand its involvement in renewable energy, infrastructure, and youth employment while promoting community inclusion and local content participation.
Oborevwori also commended Mrs. Olaniyi’s leadership, describing her visit as a reinforcement of a shared vision for progress rooted in accountability, innovation, and tangible community impact.
The Managing Director of Midwestern Oil and Gas, Mrs. Elozino Olaniyi, emphasised that the company views its operations as more than profit-making, prioritising values and non-financial impact.
She disclosed that the company has awarded 298 scholarships nationwide this year, investing over $2 million to support students in secondary and tertiary education, including beneficiaries studying abroad in countries such as the United States and Latvia.
