UNIDEL honours Delta Speaker

The University of Delta, Agbor, honoured the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor, for his contributions to the institution’s growth and development.

The award was presented during the university’s maiden convocation ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the five-year-old institution.

Speaker Guwor was recognised alongside 17 prominent Nigerians for their support and impact on the university’s progress.

Among the honourees were Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Zenith Bank founder Jim Ovia, and NDDC Board Chairman Chiedu Ebie.

The event attracted top government officials, academics, traditional rulers, political leaders, students and well-wishers from across the state.

The atmosphere was celebratory as the Speaker mounted the stage to sustained applause to receive the award from Vice Chancellor, Stella Chiemeke.

In its citation, the university commended the 46-year-old lawmaker for his steadfast support for educational advancement and legislative backing that strengthened the institution’s expansion.

Management noted that Guwor recently emerged Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, describing the feat as a testament to his leadership credentials.

The institution credited him with facilitating policies and interventions that reinforced the structural framework required for the university’s steady growth.

Clad in white traditional attire with a black hat, the Speaker received the honour with visible pride and appreciation.

Reacting, his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, described the award as a recognition of purposeful leadership and commitment to good governance.

He said the Speaker’s passion for educational development has translated into measurable impact within Delta State and beyond.

Nwaeke added that the honour reflects Guwor’s dedication to advancing education and youth development, particularly in Warri South West Constituency.

He assured that the Speaker would continue to champion policies promoting academic excellence and infrastructure development across institutions in the state.

The presentation of awards formed a major highlight of the colourful convocation ceremony.
