Police kill bandits, nab gunrunners in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command says several suspected bandits were neutralised during coordinated security operations across parts of the state.

The crackdown targeted criminal hideouts in Kajuru, Tafa, Igabi and Kauru local government areas.

Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad said the operations were intelligence-driven.

He told journalists in Kaduna that identified camps were dislodged after fierce gun battles.

According to him, some suspects were killed, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

Police operatives also arrested alleged informants and drug suppliers linked to criminal groups.

Muhammad disclosed that notorious bandits and five suspected gunrunners were apprehended.

Recovered items include three AK-47 rifles and one submachine gun.
Officers also seized 21 fabricated firearms, two pistols and four locally made pistols.

A large quantity of hard drugs was recovered during the raids.

On February 17, operatives intercepted three suspects at Kasuwan Magani over an alleged arms deal.

The suspects were reportedly found with a fabricated AK-47 rifle and a pump-action gun.

In a separate operation on February 20, detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested a suspect in Jaji Town.

Police said he was allegedly in possession of six fabricated AK-47 rifles.

Three fabricated revolver rifles, two pistols and seven AK-47 magazines were also recovered.

Another suspect was arrested in connection with the case in Jos North.

Preliminary investigations suggested the suspects were involved in illegal arms production and distribution.

The Command said efforts were ongoing to dismantle the syndicate and trace its supply chain.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the police commitment to proactive security measures.

He vowed to intensify intelligence-led operations to curb banditry and related crimes.

Authorities believe the network supplied weapons to criminal groups within and beyond Kaduna State.
