FG approves N21.68bn for new NAMA headquarters in Abuja

The Federal Government has approved N21.68 billion for the construction of the first phase of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) corporate headquarters in Abuja, a move aimed at modernising the nation’s aviation infrastructure and consolidating operational efficiency.

The announcement was made by Mr. Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility.

Keyamo stated that the construction contractor, MESSRS NHD Interbiz Projects Ltd., is expected to complete the first phase within 30 months.

“We will hold them to the highest standards of quality and timelines as stipulated in the agreement. The contract is valued at N21.68 billion, inclusive of all taxes, with a completion period of 30 months,” he said.

The minister described the project as a deliberate action under Executive Order 12, stressing that it is part of a wider government strategy to modernise agencies operating in outdated and siloed structures.

“With this new headquarters, we are providing a conducive environment that fosters innovation, enhances collaboration, and boosts staff morale.

The project consolidates NAMA’s administrative and operational functions into a modern, purpose-built facility,” Keyamo said.

He further highlighted that the headquarters would integrate executive management offices with a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Management Centre, enhancing operational efficiency, safety oversight, and real-time responsiveness.

The facility is designed to provide a secure, technology-enabled environment for managing Nigeria’s sovereign airspace.

Keyamo assured that the project strictly complies with the Public Procurement Act 2007, following a transparent and competitive tender process.

He linked the initiative to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting its potential to create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and boost confidence in the aviation sector.

“This project embodies that agenda. It creates jobs, stimulates economic activity, and enhances the security of our national assets.

Ultimately, it builds confidence in the aviation sector, encouraging investment and seamless movement of people and goods,” he said.

Also addressing the ceremony, NAMA Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Farouk described aviation as an interdependent ecosystem that required strong partnerships.

He called on the contractor to deliver excellence and timely completion.
“To the contractor, NHD Interbiz Projects Ltd., we expect nothing short of excellence and timely completion. As we turn the sod today, we are laying the foundation for the future of air navigation services in Nigeria,” Farouk said.
The new NAMA headquarters is expected to centralise the agency’s operations, bringing administrative and technical functions under one roof and positioning Nigeria for greater efficiency in airspace management.
